Legislative Advocacy

A Collective Voice Representing Ohio's Green Industry

It is up to us to ensure our industry— and your company—is not negatively impacted, even unintentionally, by the many bills introduced in the Ohio General Assembly each session. ONLA’s advocacy team takes an active role in monitoring legislative activity, providing input on current issues, introducing legislation, and maintaining strong relationships with legislators.

Issues on our radar:

  • Invasive Plants & Pests
  • Pollinators
  • Home Improvement Contractors legislation
  • Tax Issues, CAUV, Snow Removal
Legislative Consultant

ONLA works with a legislative consulting firm, Capitol Consulting Group, to remain aware of all legislative activity relating to the green industry and to ensure a strong presence at the Ohio Statehouse. If you are interested in meeting with your local legislator, please contact Belinda Jones for assistance, at or 614.224.3855.

Your Involvement Matters

Every voice should be heard. Small business owners are especially impacted by regulatory burdens, but even if you are just entering the workforce, legislation passed today could negatively impact your future in this industry.

It is your responsibility to tell your story, and you have the opportunity to be part of the decision-making process.

  • Voting in your local, state and federal elections is just one way of exercising your political rights.
  • Build relationships with your elected officials. They want to hear from you!
  • Check for updates on current issues
  • Become a member of the PAC to advance and amplify our message
Connect with Your Legislator

Due to term limits, there is seemingly constant turnover in the Ohio House and the Ohio Senate. Get to know your legislators on a personal basis. Invite them to coffee or breakfast in your neighborhood. They want to know about you. They want to know about your business. And you need them to know you so you can be a resource for them. If you are interested in pursuing a meeting with your legislator, either in Columbus or in your hometown/place of business, ONLA Legislative Consultant Belinda Jones can help set up a meeting. Contact Belinda at or 614.224.3855.

Ohio Nursery & Landscape Political Action Committee (PAC)

A Political Action Committee is formed by a group of individuals with similar interests who join together to financially support political candidates. ONLPAC supports candidate who beneficially influence legislation related to Ohio’s green industry. Candidates are selected using different criteria including voting record, whether the candidate is in a leadership position, political beliefs, and whether or not the candidate’s constituency is made up of green industry members. Each year the ONLPAC holds fundraising events. Learn More
