Certification - Reciprocity

n. mutual exchange; esp., exchange of special privileges between two entities

New to Ohio? Have you obtained certification status in another state? Now you may apply for certification here as well…without having to take another exam!

The Great Lakes Nursery Association Leadership Council is pleased to offer certification reciprocity among its member associations. States involved in the Great Lakes Nursery Association Leadership Council are:
· Illinois Green Industry Association
· Indiana Nursery & Landscape Association
· Michigan Nursery & Landscape Association
· Minnesota Nursery & Landscape Association
· New York State Nursery & Landscape Association
· Ohio Nursery & Landscape Association
· Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association
· Wisconsin Nursery Association, Inc.

If you are a certified individual in good standing from one of the associations listed above, you may apply for certified status in another state following the criteria provided by that state.

Illinois Certified Nursery Professional (ICN Pro)
Entrance fees:
$65/members; $130/non-members
Requirements:
Complete IGIA application and provide written verification of current certification from affiliated state program.
How to retain:
Re certification required on an annual basis. ICN Pro must obtain four (4) hours of Continuing Education Points annually and submit the $15 re certification fee.

Indiana Accredited Horticulturist (IAH)
Entrance fees: $50, includes 2 years of certification
Requirements:
Provide a copy of credentials from affiliated state program and hold active status.
How to retain:
Either obtain necessary CEU’s by attending sanctioned education sessions or take exam, and submit renewal fee every two years.

Michigan Certified Nurseryman (MCN)
2 Specialist Classifications; Landscape Management and Retail
Entrance Fees: $30.00 MNLA/members or $40/non-members
Requirements:
Provide written confirmation from affiliated state program that the individual is certified in good standing.
How to retain:
Required to follow MNLA rules and regulations and pay the appropriate annual dues renewal fee and obtain necessary CEU's.

Minnesota Certified Nursery & Landscape Professional
Three specializations: Garden Center, Grower, and Landscape
Entrance fees: $15.00
Requirements:
Provide written confirmation from affiliated state program that the individual is certified in good standing.
How to retain:
Obtain necessary CEU’s and pay renewal fee every 3 years.

New York State Certified Nursery & Landscape Professional (CNLP)
Entrance fees:
$100.00/NYSNLA member; $175.00/non-members
Requirements:
Provide copy of credentials or a letter from the previous state’s Executive Director, Education Director, or other appropriate representative. 2 or 4 year degree in horticultural related field or 3 years' experience in horticultural industry required.
How to retain:
30 credit hours of continuing education over 3 years and $40.00/member or $75.00/non-member renewal fee.

Ohio Certified Nursery Technician (OCNT)
Three specializations: Garden Center, Grower, and Landscape
Entrance fees:
$35.00/ONLA member; $70.00/non-member
Requirements:
Complete and sign contract and show verification of current certification by a letter from the state’s Executive Director, Education Director, or other appropriate representative.
How to retain:
Renew every three years by submitting renewal fee ($25/ONLA member or $50.00/non-member) and obtaining three training credits within the three year period of certification.

Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist (PCH)
Entrance fees:
$50.00/PLNA members or $100.00/non-member
Requirements:
Complete application and show verification of current certification by a letter from the state’s President, Education Director, or other appropriate representative.
How to retain:
An annual renewal fee must be paid after the first full year ($35.00/PLNA member or $100/non-members). In addition, all PCHs are required to obtain three CEUs every year.

Wisconsin Nursery Association Certification
Wisconsin offers reciprocal certification to members of the WIsconsin Nursery Association who hold current nursery certification form recognized Great Lakes Nursery Association. The Wisconsin Nursery Association does not, however, offer its own certification program.
