First Annual Ohio High School Landscape Olympics Takes Place November 3 & 4 in Wooster, Ohio
Wednesday, October 26, 2016
The Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association will welcome 151 high school students from across Ohio for the first annual Ohio High School Landscape Olympics (OHLO), the only event of its kind in state.
Ohio high schools and career centers with horticulture programs were invited to participate in OHLO, an educational competition where students interested in careers in the green industry can test their hands-on skills.
Students from 17 schools will compete in ten events in the afternoon on Thursday, November 3 and throughout the day on Friday, November 4th at the OSU ATI campus in Wooster Ohio. The event will end with an awards ceremony.
Competitive events include planting and design, installation of hardscape materials such as a paver patio, irrigation assembly, truck and trailer operation, skid steer operation, plant identification and cost estimating and sales presentation. Students will be judged individually and as teams by representatives from Ohio landscaping companies.
Industry representatives and landscape companies from across the state will meet with the students participating in the Olympics during a career exploration fair on Thursday, November 3 from 4–5pm.
