Arbor Day Foundation

The Arbor Day Foundation inspires people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees.
Each year, the Ohio Nursery & Landscape Association (ONLA) sponsors a statewide poster contest for fifth grade students in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. Coinsiding with a curriculum on the beauty and envoronmental benefits of trees, students create poster art to be submitted to the contest. One winner is selected by the ONLA to represent Ohio in the nationwide Arbor Day Poster Contest. National Tree Benefit Calculator

The Tree Benefit Calculator allows anyone to make a simple estimation of the benefits individual street-side trees provide. This tool is based on i-Tree’s street tree assessment tool called STRATUM. With inputs of location, species and tree size, users will get an understanding of the environmental and economic value trees provide on an annual basis.

Ohio FFA Foundation

The Ohio FFA Center is incorporated with the state of Ohio and is governed by a board of directors. It is an affiliation of the Ohio FFA Association and the Agricultural Education Service, Division of Career-Technical and Adult Education and the Ohio Department of Education. The overall focus of the center is to enrich the agricultural education and FFA program in Ohio.

OSU's Buckeye Yard & Garden Line (BYGL)

Buckeye Yard and Garden onLine provides timely information about Ohio growing conditions, pest, disease, and cultural problems. Updated weekly between April and October, this information is useful for those who are managing a commercial nursery, garden center, or landscape business or someone who just wants to keep their yard looking good all summer.


BYGL is a service of OSU Extension and is aided by support from the ONLA (Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association) to the OSU Extension Nursery, Landscape and Turf Team (ENLTT). Any materials in this newsletter may be reproduced for educational purposes providing the source is credited.


BYGL is available online at:  http://bygl.osu.edu, a website sponsored by the Ohio State University Department of Horticulture and Crop Sciences (HCS) as part of the "Horticulture in Virtual Perspective." The goal of the phenology / growing degree days calendar is to create an interactive website that will enable an Ohio producer to input his/her 5–digit zip code and obtain information as to which insect/pest he/she needs to spray for and when.

PLANET

The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is an international partner association with the ONLA. PLANET serves lawn care professionals, landscape management contractors, design/build/installation professionals, and interior plantscapers. PLANET provides its members with a good business foundation to help them evaluate, plan, and better manage their companies. Member firms have direct access to marketing tools, industry specific business publications, updates on legislative issues, and networking opportunities that can assist them in becoming more profitable.
