Legislative Advocacy – Supporting the Green Industry
ONLA strives to promote legislation that meets the needs of Ohio's green industry. ONLA partners with PLANET, AmericanHort, Irrigation Association, and others at the national level to keep the issues of the green industry at the forefront.
ONLA has multiple resources and events throughout the year that support green industry legislation. Look into a program that suits you and get involved!
The ONLA hosts a Green Industry Advocacy Day every year at the Ohio Statehouse that is dedicated to legislative advocacy. This event is an opportunity to learn the basics of how bills are introduced and made into laws, meet with your elected officials in the Ohio House and Senate to discuss issues important to our industry, network with ONLA’s legislative committee and related green industry leaders, hear from guest speakers and more. Make an impact and attend! Learn More.
The ONLA partners with AmericanHort and several other state associations in the Lighthouse Program. The ONLA donates $10 of each member’s dues to the Lighthouse Program. The Lighthouse Program helps green industry professionals become politically active at the local level as well as develop relationships with members of Congress and other federal officials. The program informs green industry businesses, equips owners and managers with knowledge and tools to have maximum impact with minimum time and effort, and builds a grassroots base that captures the power potential of this industry.
The ONLA contracts with a legislative consulting firm, Capitol Consulting Group, to ensure that the association remains aware of all legislative activity relating to the green industry and to ensure a strong presence at the Ohio Statehouse. Ohio Nursery & Landscape Political Action Committee (PAC)
A Political Action Committee is formed by a group of individuals with similar interests who join together to financially support political candidates. ONLPAC supports candidate who beneficially influence legislation related to Ohio’s green industry. Candidates are selected using different criteria including voting record, whether the candidate is in a leadership position, political beliefs, and whether or not the candidate’s constituency is made up of green industry members. Each year the ONLPAC holds fundraising events.
